Of course I'm sorry that Lewis Hamilton won't be with a British formula one team for next year

Lewis Hamilton
But I really believe that the move to Mercedes is the right one for him. I knew over the weekend that he had possibly reached a decision because he kept tweeting pics of things with a prominent mercedes logo. The poor choice by McLaren to race with a faulty gearbox at Singapore probably settled his mind.

I am convinced that Mercedes is the best move for Lewis because as I have said before, they are the source of the engines which have supplied his victories with McLaren. And I cannot imagine that they will continue to supply top of the line machinery to a competing team no matter what it says in their contract. It would make no sense whatsoever!

As a factory team Mercedes have enormous financial resources with which to develop their engines and it is in their direct interest to do so. Those resources will now be behind Lewis for the next three years at least.

As a strategist, Ross Brawn is without equal. He would never have made the kind of fundamental errors which Martin Whitmarsh has made recently.

Of course as a team Mercedes/Hamilton have a lot of work to do to get to regular pole position on the grid but I believe that the double DRS system will prove to be an enormous advantage in the right hands.

I do not think that all the talk about turning Lewis into a global brand played any part in his decision because I am beyond certain that all he wants to do is win world championships. The money and accolades are entirely secondary to him.
