Early photo of Lady Diana reveals different press standards

EarlyLadyDianaPhoto
An early photo showing Lady Diana, in a relaxed mood with a young Adam Russell (great-grandson of former Tory prime minister Stanley Baldwin) and sold to the Daily Mirror just two days after her engagement to Prince Charles, is to be auctioned in the US.

The photo by an unknown photographer has 'NOT TO BE PUBLISHED' written across it in crayon, presumably by the picture editor, revealing a far different standard of press behaviour than today.

It's interesting to compare the sensibility and discretion displayed by the unidentified editor with the vile greedy scrabbling which was a feature of the recent Kate Middleton and Prince Harry incidents. Especially so when you consider that the photo landed on the picture desk some thirty odd years ago.

How the world has changed in such a short time!
