But then the Radio Times just had to do one of their short interviews at the back in which stars of stage and screen reveal their televisual likes and dislikes.
Now, I don't have any great admiration for the acting skills of Shaun Evans who plays the young Morse and I don't really care whether I never see him in anything again. But I have been enjoying this portrayal although I suspect that my enjoyment is manly because of the writing and the production in general. Even so I accept that a character must have a certain believability. Morse was always one of my very favourite characters and in fact I enjoyed pretty much everything that John Thaw did because I could easily believe in the parts he played. Due, in no small measure, to the fact that he never exposed feet of clay. I cannot recall ever seeing any interview or appearance on a chat show in which that might have occurred. you could believe in Morse as a serious, opera and crossword loving gentleman because Thaw the actor never did anything to contradict that image.
Shaun Evans was doing quite well until this stupid interview in which he used the word "amazing" twice. It is, of course, one of my least favourite words and using it once is bad enough but twice shows a serious vocabulary deficiency.
Asked who his ideal dinner guest would be, Evans replied that he would invite Beyonce because he was sure she would be good company! Really!!!
The very next question was to ask whether he had ever been star struck. He replied, in direct contradiction, of his previous answer that he was not that kind of person.
Unfortunately Evans also revealed that he watches The Voice and that he used to enjoy Columbo. Sinking even further into the depths of stupidity he claimed to enjoy Malcolm McLaren's version of Madame Butterfly.
I'm sorry to say that tomorrow's last episode of Endeavour has now been utterly spoiled for me.
