The really bad news is that Hairy Biker Dave Myers and lovely Karen Hauer are out. Of all the comedy participants Dave has been by far the best value but the real pleasure for me has been watching Karen have so much genuine fun. I think Karen has been the only professional not to betray the slightest ill humour at being partnered with a no-hoper (in dance competition terms) and as such she deserves a Strictly contract for as long as she may wish one. The picture above says it all really.
The other bad news was that Natalie succumbed to a fainting fit in rehearsals caused by low blood pressure, no doubt brought on by the steroid injections for her back problem. What is Stictly without a really excellent celebrity performance?
Which brings me to the solitary item of relatively good news. Natalie's bad luck has revitalised my betting recommendation for Abbey Clancey. If Nat fails to return some of my readers may end up laughing all the way to the bank as I suggested a small plunge at 7/1. 9/2 is the best you can get now. I don't think Sophie Ellis-Bextor will get further than the semis as she has still not managed to inject a single drop of personality or characterisation into any dance at all. So with Natalie possibly out of contention then the next consideration must be for Abbey even with that truly vile accent.
Weirdly the other item of fairly bad news was Brucie's absence. Strictly is getting far too girly and gushing for my taste. I cannot abide Claudia at the best of times - those panda eyes staring out insanely from under the lunatic fringe - the breathless enthusiasm - the stupidly high heeled shoes. I have much the same objections to Zoe Ball on It Takes Two and in fact she irritates me so much with her endlessly repetitive use of the word 'amazing' to describe anything and everything that comes within her grasp that I think I shall have to stop watching the programme altogether - especially now that I no longer have the Dave and Karen show to entertain me.
