You really have to laugh: Bernie Ecclestone tries to bribe his way out of bribery charges

Like him or loath him, you just have to admire the sheer nerve of the guy. His offer of $100 million to end his trial in Germany on bribery charges is so hysterically ironic that I nearly choked on my coffee when I read it.

Prosecutors have said they will accept the offer and the Munich state court is expected to agree to the offer later on today.

On reflection I'm not sure which is funnier; Bernie making the offer or the hypocrisy of the prosecutors in accepting it.

Having spent the morning with my nose in German legal tomes for the benefit of my gentle readers (not really), it appears that under Bavarian state law, a trial of the nature of Bernie’s can be concluded if the accused makes a payment to a non-profit making organisation, or the treasury. This is not considered an admission of guilt.

Oh well - whatever! It still gave me a chuckle today.
