When I first saw this picture I thought it was of an old bit of carpet thrown into a ditch. Then I felt physically sick when I realised it was actually a living (but only just) horse.
The man responsible for this evil treatment of animals, one Philip Davies, was found guilty this week of 52 counts of animal cruelty and fined £86,000 as well as being banned from keeping animals for life.
Fair enough you might say until you read a little further and find that the reason Davies gave to the court for allowing his horses to suffer neglect was because of failed business ventures. In other words he had no money! So what was the point in the large fine? He will not be able to pay it and therefore is not a realistic penalty. A few years in prison would have been much more appropriate surely? Or maybe I'm missing something and the law isn't such an ass after all!
