It's not as if the press has anything to be pleased with themselves about here either.
Where was all the invasion of privacy and ruthless investigatory techniques which were "entirely in the public interest" then eh? In the public interest seems to be something of a movable feast.
There is one aspect which bears a thorough investigation now however
Whoever had the idea to give Savile any kind of responsibility, let alone the keys, at Broadmoor needs his head examined.
I may have this entirely wrong but isn't Broadmoor meant to be a secure unit for the detention of the criminally insane?
The Department of Health says that:
In hindsight he should very obviously not have been appointedNo indeed. Not in hindsight, foresight or any other kind of sight!
I mean, didn't it tell them anything that Savile looked more like an inmate than the inmates themselves?
And what was the excuse? I don't think Broadmoor runs on any kind of charitable donation system.
So what sphere of influence did he have?
If there is anybody still in a position of responsibility who played any part in that decision, they should be relieved of their job right now!
Or else it really becomes a frightening case of the insane taking over the asylum.
