Strictly Come Dancing - time for a rethink

Wembley came round again and I think it may be time for a reavaluation. I don't see the need for Wembley at all.

Part of the appeal of Strictly is the cosy intimate relationship between its viewers and the dancers, both professional and celebrity. This is, in the main an illusion, fostered by the power of social media but also due to the compact nature of the BBC television studio. The size of Wembley inhibits this completely and the complex and overdone lighting effects prevent any kind of involvement altogether.
For instance in the opening group dance by the pros I was unable to recognise Ola Jordan at all and I was looking out for her as I always do.

I really don't see the need for so many theme nights at all. I think Blackpool and one other special - say Halloween, would be quite sufficient. The money saved could thus be returned to the costume budget, an area which has sadly suffered this year.

And on the subject of saving money, there is a growing enthusiasm for the retirement of Brucie. I don't think he was missed at all during his week's rest and recuperation. As for his replacement - granted a bit of humour is necessary and preferably without the endless breathy enthusiasm of his current co-presenters. I would suggest Jo Brand. We could thereby indulge in the tempting fat jokes without any danger of it being labelled as cyber bullying.

When Lisa Riley did the splits it registered on the Richter scale and when she got up I swear I heard the sound of a released suction cup.

And so to the betting.

Louis Smith:
I'm preparing myself to lose my win bet. He has stopped improving and seems to think that gymnastic tricks are a substitute for dance performance. His continued lack of chemistry with Flavia is costing points now and this is reflected in the market.
Drifting and 11/8 is available again at Coral.

Denise van Outen:
Did a grossly overmarked but popular Charleston which was virtually unrecognisable as such. She was supposed to be Cleopatra and James swung in on a rope (vine) as some sort of explorer (presumably). But what can you hang a vine from on the banks of the Nile? It's a mystery to me.
Nevertheless the best price you can get about her now is 11/8 with the likes of Stan James.

Kimberley Walsh:
Continuing to drift; 9/1 from 6/1 last week.
She's just legs and teeth.

Elsewhere, I don't see why Lisa Riley (16/1) is a shorter price than Dani Harmer who continues to put on a dazzling performance every week. If she were a bit more sylph like, she would be a real contender this year instead of being out there at 20/1.

Victoria Pendleton put up another disappointing routine which featured a bicycle this week. I thought the stunt was poorly presented and lacked style.
Vic can now be had around 40/1.

Richard Arnold went this week not before time as I was tired of his permanent surprised cod face. Hopefully Nicky Byrne next.
