The latest piece of dubious quackology to emerge courtesy of a certain Professor Craig Jackson, head of psychology at Birmingham City University, is that grumpy, glass-half-empty people who always seem in a bad mood have an hormone imbalance.
Apparently a shortage of chemicals such as dopamine and seratonin can lead to symtoms such as feeling sad for more days than not, low energy, a low appetite or overeating, sleeping too much or too little, a negative outlook on life, withdrawing from social contact and experiencing little joy in everyday life. And he's even given it a name; dysthymia.
Well I have news for Prof Jackson; just because I hate people and think life is a crock of shit, it doesn't mean I have anything wrong with my hormone levels.
