More bad news for the nation's collective gene pool

Fearne Cotton, the TV presenter whose fatuous style helped ruin the BBC's coverage of the River Pageant recently, has announced her pregnancy. Worse still, the purported father is someone called Jesse Wood the son of drug fuelled rocker Ronnie Wood and himself an addict. So:
Talentless and publicity seeking + talentless and drug addicted = Hopeless and feckless
And it will only add fuel for the Mail Online's demented need to publish even more horrible celebrity 'baby bump' pics.
Yuck, yuck. I'm reaching for one the sick bags that the egregious Cotton promoted so enthusiastically at the River Pageant.

What a terrible present to give an elderly lady for her Diamond Jubilee

Being made to shake hands with one of the scum responsible for the murder of her much loved cousin. And of course it's part of the legacy left to us by the lying, treacherous regime of Tony Blair.
I can only hope that the souls of all those murdered by the IRA are waiting for him in hell.

The real danger of internet trolls.

The risk of legitmate criticism getting confused with cyber bullying.

Fearne Cotton was one of the BBC's River Pageant presenters who completely ruined the show for viewers and resulted in some 4487 complaints so far. Of course it was not ultimately the fault of Ms Cotton but she was personally responsible for calling a war veteran by the wrong name during an interview and her irritating, flippant and condescending style is hers and hers alone.

And in response to those claiming they had the right to an opinion about her presenting, Miss Cotton stated: ‘Opinions are one thing, outright bullying is another. VERY different.’
And:
‘I love my job and wouldn’t be doing it if I wasn’t any good at it. I have been working non-stop for 15 years, thank you.’
Well in the first place Ms Cotton, criticism, even on a personal level, is absolutely NOT the same as bullying. And in the second place, just because you have been doing something for a long time does not mean that you are any good at it or even that it is worth doing.
As we see continuously, the BBC is no longer the arbiter of good taste that it once was and therefore being continuously employed by them doesn't mean jack shit.

My real concern is that, with the increasing publicity attendant on the bleatings of such as Ms Cotton, people may become reluctant to voice any criticism for fear of being tagged as bullies. And thus the reprehensible work of third rate artists and others in the broadcast media may continue with impunity.

I didn't watch the Jubilee Concert.

Because, for the life of me, I don't understand what ageing popstars and second rate comics have to with Her Majesty's 60 yr reign celebrations. After yesterday's appalling BBC coverage of the River Pageant I'd had enough of the trivialisation of such an important event. And I'm quite sure that Her Majesty would rather have had the travel clock, had she been asked.

Disappointing BBC coverage of the Jubilee River Pageant

I had been really looking forward to an afternoon watching the coverage of the Jubilee River Pageant. Of course I would have given my eye teeth to be there but I couldn't so that was it. I had a sense of forboding when I saw that the scheduled commentators was to include Matt Baker, a man who is unable to speak or pronounce English correctly, and Sophie Raworth whose news broadcasts have all the fluidity of a stroke victim. But, I told myself, surely it could not be that bad. It is the Beeb after all and not Sky! How wrong could I possibly be? The BBC coverage was as dismal as the weather.
I had forgotten the Beeb's policy of trivialising anything to do with the Monarchy.
From the second I heard someone refer to the Queen as Her Royal Highness, I knew it was all going to go horribly wrong.
And sure enough Matt Baker started off with his usual brand of regional English which denies the existence of the letter G in the endings of present participles and gerunds. While Sophie Raworth, who could trivialise anything into non existence, prattled on with gems such as:
"Oh look, my 70 yr old dad is in there somewhere!" Completely ignoring a barge overflowing with Royals and other dignitaries floating past on the river.
Other low points included;
Tess Daly prancing about with a strange hair piece vaguely resembling a pineapple perched on her head.
Something about some people doing some really rubbish painting. In the rain for God's sake!
Somebody wiffling about sandwiches and picnic snacks. Why do celebrity chefs have to be dragged into everything nowadays?
Richard E Grant talking to the embarrassing John Sargent about his Union Jack socks and underwear. WHY?
Fearne Cotton doing something pointless and utterly irrelevant in sparkly shoes.

This was an event that is unlikely ever to be repeated and the whole significance and description of the spectacle was missed entirely.
I only heard one historically significant event mentioned and that was the fact that Anne Boleyn came by river for both her wedding and execution. Was that really the best they could do from hundreds of years of history?

One question which intrigued me was that of the underuse of the rather magnificent replica royal barge Glorianna (below).

Why wasn't Her Majesty on board this splendid craft instead of that motorised tin bath? We weren't told. Maybe it was a matter of security or safety. I could understand that but I'd have liked to have been be told. I admit that the handling of the tin bath was accomplished with skilful aplomb and was a joy to watch but even so!
This was an event that took several years to plan and it was executed magnificently in spite of the dire weather. But it took the BBC only a few hours to make it ruin it with puerile rubbish and a Blue Peter level of commentary.
The BBC ought to be utterly ashamed of itself.
