Surplus Olympic tickets to be sold off to us Brits.

What on earth is the sense in making unsold tickets available in our own market? Where is the benefit in that? Surely bringing in outside money is the only chance this country has of recouping some of the thousands of millions already wasted on this farcical advertising platform for ailing multi-nationals.

I make no secret of the fact that I don't really understand what the enthusiasm for the modern games is all about especially in these recessionary times. Little examples keep coming up.

Apparently Thomas Cook (who had hit hard times only a few months ago) is the "official provider of ticket and accommodation packages" and have not been notably successful in selling the most expensive packages. Small wonder as they have been advertising tickets for the men’s 100 metres final including a room in an East London hotel for one night for the astonishing sum of £3000. The face value of these tickets is £420 each. I cannot imagine any room in East London being worth more than £50. Please don't get me wrong, East London holds a place in my affections unequalled by anywhere else. But from a tourist's perspective we ain't exactly talking Mayfair here are we? The Hilton Bethnel Green anyone?

So what we are left with is £2950 to watch an event which lasts what? 10 seconds? Nearly £300 a second. Do me a favour Thomas Cook. You are not selling any because it represents shit value for money like the whole of London 2012.
