Of course I'm not in favour of allowing the threat of terrorism to dictate how we live our lives. But there are sensible limits surely.
The benefits of holding London 2012 exist only in the minds of a few naive and deluded politicians whereas the potential threats do not, it seems. This pic is from an item in the Daily Mail which claims that a ground-to-air missile installation is to be sited on the roof of a block of flats in Bow, East London, with the object of protecting the Olympic stadium from air attack.
It must be obvious to even the most deluded of politicians that the risks to those unfortunate enough to live below are staggeringly high. There is the obvious possibility of a pre-emptive strike by terrorists in order to leave the skies above their target unprotected. And the chance of an attempt by terrorists, or even criminals, to steal the weaponry for themselves. The ensuing firefight could have the kind of collateral damage which would cost quite a few votes I imagine.
No mention has been made as to whether the installation invalidates the residents insurance policies since it is such an overt invitation to an act of war. They should be told.
I don't think that a government has the right to expose it's civilian population to risks such as these.
