I just don't get this fuss about the Olympic torch relay.

Don't people realise that it's just a marketing ploy by the government to drum up interest in parts of the country which are remote from the main event but wiil eventually be paying a share of the costs.

Nor do I get why I've seen signs outside shops today wishing the relay "good luck." What for? Is it to ward off tuberculosis from the homeless people they might pass, or pneumonia from the old folk who cannot afford heating?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the worthy people who have been selected to carry the torches, just the motives of the people who have selected them.
