Another Cameron policy which will penalise the elderly

Cut Price Alcohol
First of all I have to admit that I know bugger all about the 'Sheffield Alcohol Policy Model' upon which his decision to increase the minimum price of alcohol is based.

But I do know a load of bullshit when I see it.
For instance Cameron says that:
a 40p minimum unit price could result in 50,000 fewer crimes a year and 900 fewer alcohol-related deaths per year by the end of the decade.
Binge-drinking isn’t some fringe issue, it accounts for half of all alcohol consumed in this country.
Firstly; won't there be a corresponding increase in alcohol theft from supermarkets and off-licenses?
Secondly; is he seriously suggesting that those 900 deaths are only of people who could not afford to pay an extra 40 pence for 4 cans of supermarket lager? Were the corpses means tested?
Thirdly; the last part of this ludicrous statement implies that half of all the people you see drinking in an average pub on a Saturday night are binge drinking.

It's just crap. And the people it will affect most, once again, are the elderly on miserable pensions. The only thing we have to look forward to is a drink to help us through the night. That and death of course.
