Puerile prank call costs the life of a dedicated and caring nurse.

Australian DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian
It's the saddest piece of news I've seen for a time. The nurse who took the prank phone call from the Australian DJs pretending to be members of the royal family in order to gain confidential information about the health of the Duchess of Cambridge committed suicide earlier today.

Well I say that it was in order to get information but I rather suspect it was in order to gain notoriety and publicity for their pathetic radio station. It certainly was utterly puerile, as are all these stupid gags, whatever the motive.

It's especially sad because the nurse, Jacintha Saldanha, was only standing in on the switchboard for someone else and it is unlikely that she was prepared in any way for the level of egregious behaviour deployed by the popular media on these occasions.

She leaves a husband and two children. I hope the DJs responsible, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, have the consequences of their stupidity on their consciences for the rest of their miserable lives.
